The Basche-Sage Place Building was erected in 1926 to house the first regional hardware store of the magnitude of Basche-Sage Hardware company.

The "Top Flight Retail Lumberyard" was established in 1879 and upon the completion of noted building in 1926, the hardware giant moved into the 3 story showcase. Displays of hardware and equipment as well as sporting goods, were set up from the basement to the top floor of this new $1000,000.00 structure.

Many honorable accounts were made of the "Finest Hardware Store ever erected in Oregon" (Baker Herald). Outsiders considered the retailer to be among the finest in the west.

Now the Historic Building stands as a "Mini" Shopping Mall. The main floor is full of retail and service. Upstairs is occupied by professional offices.
